Guidelines for Authors

1. Languages

The official languages for publication of the content of the magazine are English and Portuguese. Collaborators' texts and goods presented by researchers can be in any one of the two official languages. In the case of difficulties in supply of the content in the two official languages, the authors should request orientations of the editors.

2. Reviews of the goods

Each text or other cooperation should be summarized around 200 words. This summary should be capable to turn, alone, a description of the article. Reviews should be supplied in the two official languages. In the case of difficulty in producing these texts in the two languages, the authors can count with the attendance of the editorial team.

3. Authors

To supply full name, (with last name in capital letters) address for correspondence (including e-mail), telephone / fax number and an abbreviation description of the professional experience. These information should also be supplied by all of the joint authors.

4. Style

Texts and all the other submitted cooperations should be concise and written in a readable way. Language which is not technical and no discriminatory should be used where possible and the specialized terms should be explained for a multy-disciplinary public that might not know or use certain technical terms. The new terminology or highly technique should be defined and explained. The terms that will be used in an abbreviated way, should be, first, used for extensive. Clarity should be solid in the texts.

For all of the contributions, being them in English or Portuguese, the format of the headers, tables, illustrations, citations, references and other details should follow patterns internationally recognized such as: ABNT (Brazil), APA (United States), etc. Once it is an international and bilingual magazine, the job of any standardized style is accepted and recognized internationally. The important is to maintain consistence and an unique style inside of a certain article.

5. Citations

In the case of citations, the author should present all the materials exactly like they appear in the original, indicating any omission for the period of three spaces. Every citation should be referenced, just indicating the author's name and the year of publication in the body of the article and presenting the complete reference in alphabetical order in the end of the article. 40 references are recommended, at the most. These should be verified with great care. To maintain coherence in the style of the magazine, the author, independently of the stylistic format adopted for the body of the article, it should follow the guide of style of ABNT or APA strictly for the presentation of the references. All the references should be in alphabetical order for the author's (no numbered) name, as in the example below. In these references there is no space between the authors’ initials. Use the first following example when you refer to a book and the second example to an article.

In all contributions, whether in English, Portuguese or Spanish language, the format of headings, tables, figures, citations, references, and other details should follow an internationally recognized style, such as APA (USA) or ABNT (Brazil). Given the international and trilingual characteristics of BRODL, papers may follow any internationally recognized presentation style. It is important, however, to maintain a consistent style throughout any one article. Other specific style standards are presented below.

Porter, R., & Lehman, J. (1984). Projects for physical concepts of teaching using a microcomputer. Newspaper of Computers in the Teaching of the Mathematics and Science, 3 (4), 14-15.

6. Texts, tables and graphs

Every text should be original, scientifically exact, and in good editorial format. The communication should be informative, summarizing the basic facts to conclusions, and maintaining the coherence and unit of the thought. Controversial topics should be treated in a factual way and in an impartial way. The whole text should be written using an electronic editor of texts.

Tables, Graphs and Forms should be sent in an electronic way using a file type capable of being transformed in document for the Web. Not to submit compressed (for instance, zip) files.

All the tables and graphs of illustrations should be stored inside of a file of excellent quality. Illustrations will be subtitled in the inferior part of the image, and numbered in sequence. Mathematical formulas or other codes / programs, / text in tables, they should be submitted as graphs (jpeg, gif, tiff, png, etc.). The graphs should be stored in the file where they will appear.
