CALL FOR PAPERS 22nd CIAED – ABED International Congress of Distance Education

  1. The Congress
The CIAED – ABED International Congress of Distance Education opens space for researchers, educators and E-learning managers to disseminate their Scientific Works based on scientific research; share reports of innovative experiences; take part in round-table conferences with experts from Brazil and other countries; conduct lectures; be included in working groups in different areas of expertise and establish contacts with different professionals.
2. Papers
2.1 Every paper submitted for presentation should be identified according to the following categories:

  1. Rules for formatting the paper
3.1. Papers must not exceed ten (10) pages.
3.2. The general structure of the work must comprise the pre textual elements (abstract, key words, acknowledge – if any); textual content (introduction, objectives, theoretical references; methodological procedures, presentation and discussion of results; final considerations) and post textual information (references).
3.3. Use Arial font, size 12 for the text.  Foreign words in italic. Titles of internal sections in bold, left justified. Subtitles must have a paragraph indentation in relation to titles.
3.4. Graphics, charts and figures should be included as "images".
3.5. Use subtitles for images and charts, according to ABNT norms.
3.6. Quotes and bibliographic references must follow ABNT norms.
 
4. Norms for paper submission
4.1. Tool for submission
It will only be possible to submit papers through the text editor at the submission tool configured to format your work in the format required by the Congress. There will be no option to attach and send files in Word, PDF or any other extension file. If you prefer writing your paper in Word or another editor, you can “copy and paste” it at the submission editor (graphics, charts and illustrations must be inserted as “images”)

4.2. Anonymity guarantee
Names of authors, acknowledgements, thanks or any other information that could identify the authorship of the work cannot be inserted in the content of the text. If it happens, the paper will be eliminated from the evaluation process. Grant to people who contributed in any way with the work (no authors) should be inserted in specific field in the first part of the submission tool, identified as "Recognitions". Financial support and other information can also be included in the topic, and cannot exceed three lines.
4.3. Assurance in relation to the paper format
After editing your work in submission tool, click "View Work" before sending. If your paper exceeds the limit of 10 pages, you will get a warning on the screen and you should adjust it before sending. ATTENTION: If you send the article with a number of pages above the allowed limit, the system will cut off automatically the exceeding pages and will only accept the 10 initial pages (including the first page).
 
5. Paper submission
5.1. Paper submission for analysis by the Technical-Scientific Commission is restricted to ABED associates and linked to the condition that authors are Individual Associates and have the payment of their annual fees obligations up to date.
Important note: If the advisor of theses or dissertations is one of the authors, he/she must fulfill the item 4.1 (to be ABED individual associated up to date with the annual fees). Eventually, if the advisor does not consider appropriate to become associated and pay the duly fee, his/her name should not appear as author and may receive the recognition in the specific field "Acknowledgement".
5.2. Paper submission will only be accepted if presented through the specific tool available at the site: www.abed.org.br/congresso2016
5.3. Part of the process of sending papers is the obligation to indicate compliance with the term of presentation commitment described: "I undertake, if my work is approved by the Scientific Committee, to attend or appoint a representative for its presentation on the day and hour previously informed and authorize their immediate publication on the institution website. I authorize the publication of the material used in my presentation at the site of the event, as well as the use of sound and images. I also authorize receiving SMS messages on my cell phone with information concerning my scientific work and my participation in the event. "
5.4. An automatic message with a receipt number will appear on the screen after the paper submission. Author who made the submission will receive an e-mail confirming the procedure. The number of receipt created at submission will enable the correction of work, if required by the Congress Scientific Committee. Important note: receiving this message does not mean, in any way, the approval of the work for presentation at the event.
6. Papers assessment and judgement
6.1. Papers submitted to be presented in Parallel Sessions or Poster Sessions at the 22nd CIAED undergo a rigorous trial of blind peer review, in which the identity and the institutional affiliation of the author (s) are not of known by evaluators.
6.2. The Congress Technical and Scientific Committee composed by members of ABED Scientific Council and other professionals with doctorate degrees and recognized scientific contribution in the area will carry on the evaluation.
6.3. At least three members of the Technical-Scientific Committee will evaluate each paper. The result of this assessment process correspond to the average of the three evaluations, what will indicate if the paper will be accepted or not for presentation.
6.4. After the examination process, the Technical-Scientific Committee can take one of the following verdicts about the work: A) Acceptance for presentation in Parallel Session. B) Acceptance for presentation in Poster Session. C) Return to author for modification and afterwards the paper can be accepted for presentation in Parallel Session. D) Paper declined.
6.5. The authors that need make changes in their work for presentation (returned to author for modification), will be informed automatically via e-mail and should access submission tool again, using the number of receipt.
6.6. The Scientific Committee will indicate the necessary adjustments in specific area of the submission screen. Authors also must indicate in the comments field which and where changes have been made before resending the paper.
6.7. The deadline for paper correction and resubmission will be exactly 5 days (including minutes) from the automatic issuance of warning message to authors. The system will block the editing of the work after this period.
IMPORTANT:  automatic communication between ABED and the authors will be made through the electronic address of first author, as recorded in the submission tool. The order of the authors appearance will be the same as the on inserted in submission tool.
7. Publication of Approved Papers.
7.1. Approved papers will be published at the electronic Congress Annals and will be available at ABED site under the ISSN 2175-4098 and DOI 10.17143/abed1995.
7.2. The approved papers, not presented by their authors or representatives on day and time defined in the 22nd CIAED schedule, will be removed from the annals. In their places, it will be published an explanation note with the identification of responsibilities.  Their authors will be unable to submit papers for ABED events for as long as two (2) years.
7.3. Publishing language will be Portuguese. Hence, it is optional to publish it in English. Author(s) will be fully responsible for translations into English of approved work. The English versions must be sent to papers@abed.org.br until 15 July 2016.
8. Congress Languages.
The official language of the Congress is Portuguese. Conferences, plenary sessions or short courses presented in another language (English, French or Spanish) will have simultaneous translation.
 
9. Schedule
1. Receiving papers. February 18 to April 30, 2016.
2. Evaluation/correction. May 1 to June 14, 2016.
3. Results release. June 15, 2016.
4. Reception of English version of approved paper (optional). July 15, 2016.
5. Presentation during the Congress. September 19 to 22, 2016.
 
Complementary Information
Computer with basic operational system will be available for presentations during Parallel Sessions:  Windows XP 2003 with Power Point, Data show and Internet access.
