5th Meeting of the Permanent Committee of Directors of Distance Education Institutions

The 5th meeting of the Permanent Committee of Directors of Distance Education Institutions will take place on September 18th, starting at 9:00am. The committee was formed due to the need to establish a permanent forum - to not only discuss Distance Education, but also to elaborate proposals and solutions for the problems facing this field. The creation of this committee was inspired at meetings of directors organized by the International Council for Open and Distance and Education (ICDE).

This meeting will start with introductory speeches aimed toward stimulating the exchange of participants’ ideas and opinions on the subjects to be considered. For this, special guests have been invited to guide the discussion. After the initial discussions, participants will form groups in order to elaborate proposals and solutions for the problems pinpointed during the first part of the meeting. To conclude, participants will produce one or more documents that are directed toward the appropriate authorities.

Since its first meeting in 2002, the meeting of the Permanent Committee of Directors of Distance Education Institutions has been producing documents which greatly contribute to the progress of distance education in Brazil. With each meeting, the field is strengthened by the concrete proposals for the solution of problems and barriers faced by Distance Education in the country.

The meeting proposes to congregate the professionals of this field to discuss problems and actions involved in the development of distance education technologies. The objectives of the meeting include the formation of a permanent, non-commercial, non-competitive forum, in order to promote partnerships between professionals who supply technologies and services with those involved in complementary activities.

ABED international congresses always attract a range of qualified and experienced distance education technology professionals. Thus, the 5th Strategic Meeting of Distance Education Suppliers of Products and Services is an excellent opportunity for the exchange of experiences among those interested in this market.

5th Strategic Meeting of Brazilian Corporative Universities

The amount of Brazilian Corporative Universities and the quality of education offered has greatly expanded in the past few years. However, the lack of dialogue among its diverse players makes the Corporative Universities scene an array of isolated institutions and companies. Many errors, problems and solutions can and must be shared in order to facilitate pedagogical and technological advance in this field. The Strategic Meeting of Brazilian Corporative Universities was created in 2002, at the FIESP, because of the need to exchange such information.

The fifth round of this meeting will take place during 12th Brazilian Congress of Distance Education, in Florianópolis, on September 19th at 17:30. The Coordinator will be Herbert Martins of Unigranrio (Rio De Janeiro), who has more than 14 years of experience in corporative education.

The meeting is carried out in the style of an open discussion - not being related to any specific company, nor having competitive characteristics. Because its central focus is the participation and the cooperation among diverse companies and institutions, the 5th Strategic Meeting of Brazilian Corporative Universities will be one of the main catalysts for dialogue and the consequent evolution of corporative education in Brazil.
