11th Annual Conference of the Brazilian Association for Distance Education
”Evaluation: a commitment to quality”

“1st Meeting of Distance Learning Education of Portuguese Speaking Countries”
September 7th - 10th, 2004 - Salvador - BA

The Conference

O 11th Annual Conference of the Brazilian Association for Distance Education”, will be held in Salvador, BA, offering opportunities to researchers, educators and organization managers to present their work based on scientific investigation or innovative experiments; to take part in round table discussions with specialists from Brazil and other countries, to give lectures and to join work groups from different lines of work as well as establish a network of contacts.

Themes

The papers must be focused on one of the following THEMES:

A - Professional education for Distance Learning;
B - Planning, Production and Evaluation of teaching materials for Distance Learning;
C - Distance Learning Systems Management and
D - Distance Learning in Educational Systems.

Submission of papers

1.      As it is foremost an event for ABED members, papers can only be submitted for the analysis of the Scientific Committee if their presenters/authors are currently ABED members and have paid their yearly memberships. Institutional Members can submit papers by 4 authors, with the other remaining authors registered as an ABED individual members, for the Funding members, the number of authors is 10.

2.      To present papers, the associate must point out the nature of the work being submitted: research report, description of an ongoing project and planning models and the themes guiding the Conference it should go under.

3.      Papers must be accompanied by a Term of Commitment to Presentation, which reads: "I ___(full name of the main author)___  hereby commit myself , should my paper ____(title of paper)___ , authored by ____(names of all the authors)___, be approved by the Scientific Committee of the 11th ABED International Conference on Distance Learning “Evaluation: a commitment to quality”, to being on the day and time previously arranged to present it as well as giving the authorization for its immediate publication on the institution website.  I am aware that the author (s) of said paper must be associate (s), and have paid their yearly membership.  (Date and signature)".

4.      The papers which are selected will be electronically published on the conference annals on the ABED website. Papers which have been selected and which have not been presented on the day and time specified in the conference program will be removed from the conference annals and substituted by a note explaining the reason for their removal, accompanied by the names of the paper authors, who will then be prevented from submitting other scientific papers for ABED events for a period of 2 (two) years.

6.      Identification of papers sent by e-maill

In the message heading, in the "subject" field ,  identify paper with the acronym: TC (Scientific Paper), followed by the letter corresponding to the THEME,  and the number corresponding to the CATEGORY (see detailed description below) and name of event.

Example:  A (TC) Scientific Paper on the Theme - System Management of  Distance Learning (C) and the Category - Corporate Education (3), must be identified the following way:

7.      Power Point, Datashow and Internet access will be available for presentations on computer

Standards for  paper lay out

1.     Papers should not exceed ten pages.

2.     A4 pages should be used with following layout: top margin 2,5 cm; bottom margin 2,5 cm; left margin 3,5 cm; right margin 2,5 cm.

3.     Papers must be written using  Word for Windows or Write, and Arial font, size 12, on only one of the paper faces, simple spacing and left side alignment, paragraph indenting of 1,5 and page numbers inserted on the upper right side.

4.     Page structure is the following:

        a) Title at the center, on capital letters, size 16 in bold.
        b) After a space of three lines, insert name of the first author on size 14, at the center.
        c) Then, name of institution author is a member of and his electronic address using font size 10.
        d) Do the same for the other authors, leaving a line between each one of them.
        e) After leaving another line, identify paper under one of the following THEMES:

A - Professional education for Distance Learning;
B - Planning, Production and Evaluation of teaching materials for Distance Learning;
C - Distance Learning Systems Management and
D - Distance Learning in Educational Systems.

        f) Type of paper according to one of the following CATEGORIES:
                       1. Primary, Secondary or Technical Education
                       2. College Education
                       3. Corporate Education
                       4. Other – Specify

5.      Include a 200-word maximum summary in Portuguese, in italics followed by the paper key words.

6.      At the end of the text include bibliographical references and appendices.

7.      Avoid footnotes. In case these cannot be avoided, please make sure they are placed at the end of the text, right before the bibliographical references.

8.      Titles for different paper sections must be in bold and placed on the upper left side, using numerical listings.

9.      Any tables or figures must have captions.

Conference registration fee exemption

Each selected paper will allow for one (1) free conference registration. This exemption is not extended to poster sessions, if there is one.
