Join President of the University of North Carolina and of ICDE
Molly Broad and other keynote speakers, chief executive officers
of open and distance learning institutions from around the world,
in São Paulo for the annual meeting of SCOP, 13-15 August 2000.
Hosted by the Brazilian Association for Distance Education-ABED,
the University of São Paulo and the Fundação Cásper Líbero, the
conference will provide a unique forum for one full day and two
half days of intensive dialogue on global questions concerning open
and distance learning. This will be a closed meeting, with participation
granted to eligible principals of qualifying institutions with prior
approval by the Executive Office of ICDE in Oslo, Norway [www.icde.org].
The SCOP 2000 Conference will provide
the opportunity to participate in a free-ranging dialogue between
chief executives of Distance Learning institutions on such vital
policy questions as developing interaction between public and private
universities, how institutions can prepare themselves to compete
sucessfully with corporate universities, and what to look for in
partnerships with other institutions.
The key issues involved in developing
an understanding of the experience and resources and needs of competitive
educational institutions will be addressed and explored through
a mix of plenary lectures, presentations of papers and associated
discussions, and roundtables, organized by reknowned practitioners
in the field.

Creiteria of Participation in SCOP
Meetings
The ICDE Standing Conference of Presidents
(SCOP) is the global summit for inter-institutional cooperation
in distance education and open learning/virtual and online learning.
SCOP is designed as a marketplace for business development and cooperation
between participating organizations. The meeting aim at addressing
the needs of the participating institutions in stregthening their
competitive advantages in the new global environment and marketplace
for education and training.
Partcipation in SCOP is from the year
2000 restricted to presidents, rectors, vice chancellors, principals
and other CEOs of educational organizations and systems. The sending
of deputies is not encouraged. SCOP is a forum where chief executive
officers come together in a peer atmosphere.
